Yeol Eum Son

Yeol Eum Son ( 손열음, Son Yeol - eum; born May 2, 1986 in Wonju, South Korea) is a South Korean pianist.

Life

Yeol Eum Son began at the age of 3 1/2 years to play the piano. As a 12 - year-old she began her studies at the pianist Kim Dae -jin and as a 16- year-old she went to the Korean National University of the Arts, to continue their studies. Today, the pianist student in the piano class of Arie Vardi at the Musikhochschule Hannover.

As a 11- year-old she won in 1997 the 2nd prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians in Moscow. This was followed by first prize at the American " Oberlin International Piano Festival " (1999), the 7th International Competition for Young Pianists Ettlingen (2001 ), 2002 as the youngest participant at the 53rd " Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition" in Vercelli ( Italy) and at the piano competition in Hamamatsu (Japan). In 2005, she won the third prize at the " Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition" in Tel Aviv ( Israel), in October 2008 the 1st prize at the Kissinger Piano Olympus and 2009 the silver medal and the " Steven De Groote Memorial Award " at the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth ( Texas).

With the New York Philharmonic under Lorin Maazel it was 2004 Asian tour and later in Seoul. In July 2009, she performed as a soloist with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Juraj Valcuha and Vilde (violin). The following Kissinger Sommer (2010) gave a private recital. 2011 Yeol Eum Son won the second prize at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition. In addition, the first prize for the best performance of the commissioned work by Rodin Shchedrin and the first prize for the best chamber music interpretation.
