Yeonsangun of Joseon

Yeonsangun ( born December 2 in 1476 Gyodong; † November 6, 1506 in Ganghwa ) the tenth king of the Korean Joseon Dynasty was ( 1494-1506 ). His original name was Yi Yung ( 이융 ;李 㦕).

Life

He was the eldest son of King Seongjong and his second wife Yun (also listed as Yoon ). His father Seongjong had no children by his first wife, so he counseled his aides to take a second wife. The choice fell on his concubine Yun, whom he married in 1476. She bore him Yung Yi, who later changed his name as king in Yeonsangun. Yun was initially banned by Seongjongs mother insulin because of discrepancies and poisoned later.

Yeonsangun followed in 1494 his father on the throne. When he later learned the fate of his biological mother, he left in 1498, many officials who had worked on the plan to kill Yun's kill. In 1504 he also had his own grandmother insulin and two concubines of his father come to death. In 1506 he was deposed and exiled in a coup in a small number of officials. He was succeeded by his half-brother Jung Jong. Yeonsangun died the same year.
