Yezda Urfa

Yezda Urfa is an American progressive rock group.

Band History

Yezda Urfa was founded in 1973 and existed in their classic lineup ( Rodenbaugh, Tippins, Kimbrough, Miller, Christoff ) until early 1981.

Probably due to the declining interest in progressive rock in the late 70 years Yezda Urfa were never under contract, and came as no two demo albums out: " Boris " (recorded 1975/1976, published 2002) and the much better produced " Sacred Baboon " (recorded 1976, released 1989).

As part of the tardy release of " Boris " in 2002 and the offer to the band to play at the American Progfestival " NEARfest " live 2004, it came in 2003 to a reunion of Yezda Urfa. On 5 March 2008, died singer Rick Rodenbaugh.

Music

Yezda Urfa musically oriented to British progressive rock groups like Yes, King Crimson and Gentle Giant, but it created a very unique style: Fast tempo and riff changes and nonsense lyrics dominated the music of the band. Singer Rick Rodenbaugh was vocally comparable with Yes singer Jon Anderson.

Others

  • The name of the band is a product of the imagination: it is composed of the names of cities " Yazd " together (Iran) and " Urfa " (Turkey).
  • The band put on her recordings unusual sound effects: for instance, covers a loud cough of all band members a game error of acoustic guitar on "Sacred Baboon ".
  • Some pieces of Yezda Urfa are found on both " Boris " and on "Sacred Baboon ". However, the versions differ greatly in composition, arrangement and instrumentation part.
