Yi Sam-pyeong

I Sam - pyeong (李 参 平, also Yi Sam - pyeong, Japanese Ri Sampei, † 1655), also known by its Japanese name Kanagae SAMPE (金ヶ 江三 兵衛or金 江 三 兵卫) is considered the father of Imari porcelain ( Arita porcelain ) in Japan viewed. He was in present-day Banpo -myeon, Gongju, Korea ( the then Joseon Kingdom and the Yi Dynasty ) born and abducted by Japanese invaders during Hideyoshi's invasion of Korea with numerous other artisans. In 1616, he discovered a kaolin deposits on the mountain Izumi- yama in Arita and laid the foundation stone for the porcelain industry in Japan.

He is ( a Shinto shrine ) venerated in Sueyama - Jinja as the father of Arita porcelain.
