Yilan City

Yilan, also Ilan (Chinese宜兰 市, pinyin Yilan Shì, W.-G. I2 - lan2 Shih4, PEH oē - jī Gi- LAN chhi ), is the capital of Yilan County in Taiwan. It is located in a small used mainly for rice cultivation coastal plain at the mouth of the river Lanyang in the northern part of Taiwan's east coast about 80 km southeast of Taipei.

The city has about 96,000 inhabitants and an area of 29.40 km ². The name comes from the trunks of Yilan Kavalan Taiwanese aborigines.
