Yingkou

Yingkou (Chinese营口 市/营口 市, pinyin Yíngkǒu Shì ) to Dalian is the second largest port city in northeast China. As a prefecture-level city, it has an area of ​​4970 km ² and 2,350,000 inhabitants approximately (2010). Yingkou is located about 220 kilometers north of Dalian and about 200 km south of the provincial capital Shenyang. Yingkou is connected to the rail network in Liaoning Province and further has an exit at the Shenda Expressway, which connects the cities of Shenyang and Dalian. Yingkou is currently the eighth largest city of Liaoning Province. Yingkou is located on the River Liao He.

Economy

Yingkous economy is primarily influenced by its harbor as well as the automotive supplier industry. There are a number of factories that manufacture engine components, along the periphery of the city. Among them are German companies such as Stuttgart Mahle GmbH and Fuchs AG.

History

The about 50 km north of the present city of Yingkou riverside Liao He port Niuzhuang (Chinese牛庄, Niuzhuang Pinyin, English Newchwang ) was opened by the Treaty of Tianjin in 1858 for international trade. However, it turned out that the flow of the British ships was too shallow. Then they moved the port closer to the river mouth to its present location.

During the First Sino-Japanese War Yingkou was the site of a major battle. 1895, the city was conquered by the Imperial Japanese troops. The outnumbered Chinese had done a fierce resistance in a fort, which was located on the coast to Bohai on the western edge of the city to the last.

After the Second World War, Yingkou was under the control of the nationalist Kuomintang. Over the looming defeat the Kuomintang their remaining troops evacuated in 1949 in the port of Yingkou and fled to Taiwan. Thus, the presence of the Kuomintang in northeastern China was extinguished.

Culture and Tourism
