Yitzhak Katznelson

Yitzhak Katznelson ( born 1934 in Jerusalem) is an Israeli mathematician who deals with harmonic analysis

Katznelson studied at the Hebrew University (Master 's degree in 1956 ) and in 1959 received his doctorate at the Sorbonne in Szolem Mandelbrojt. From 1966 he taught at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. From 1988 he was a professor at Stanford University, where he was already to longer term stays.

He dealt with harmonic analysis ( ie, Fourier series and their generalizations ), ergodic theory and dynamical systems.

In 2002 he received for his textbook on harmonic analysis the Leroy P. Steele Prize, which according to the price - laudation the " right mix of concrete and the abstract " has. He is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
