Yitzhak Laor

Yitzhak Laor (Hebrew יצחק לאור; * 1948 in Pardes Hanna- Karkur, District Haifa) is an Israeli writer. The active part as a high school teacher and journalist author has come out with poetry, plays, essays, novels and short story collections, as well as a literary critic. The avowed anti-Zionist applicable in Israel as the " enfant terrible" of the literary scene, since it is known as a sharp critic of Israeli government policy in the Palestine conflict.

Life

His father fled in 1934 in time to the Nazi regime, went from Bielefeld to Palestine, his mother emigrated from Riga in Latvia also to Israel.

Yitzhak Laor studied literature. Later he taught at the University of Tel Aviv on the faculties of Theatre and Film and later at the Jerusalem Film School. He regularly publishes literature reviews in the internationally-known Israeli daily Ha'aretz. Among other things, "London Review of Books, " he writes in English small essays, reports and feature articles about culture, society and politics.

Laor 1972 was imprisoned because he refused to do military service in the occupied territories of Palestine. His critical poems and novels, which often grappled with the reality of military occupation and warfare, brought him since the 1980s, just as much hostility as encouragement and praise. His theater piece Ephraim Hozer La - Tzavah ( Ephraim returns to the army back ) is a parody of the anti-hero novel Ephraim Hozer La - Aspeset ( Ephraim will return to the alfalfa back in 1948 ) the Israeli author S. Yizhar. Laors drama was initially banned by the Israeli censorship board, " because it is the military rule in Judea and Samaria lowers ", but was released for performance by the Israeli Supreme Court of Appeals.
