Yitzhak Navon

Yitzhak Nawon (Hebrew יצחק נבון; born April 19, 1921 in Jerusalem) is an Israeli politician.

Yitzhak Nawon was born in 1921 as son of a Sephardic family that lives in Palestine since the 17th century. He initially worked as a teacher; In 1951 the Mapai ( Israel Workers Party ) that was 1952-1963 David Ben-Gurion's political secretary, with whom he joined from Mapai to Rafi. He was temporarily President of the World Zionist Congress. Nawon was from 1978 to 1983, the fifth President of Israel. From 1984 to 1988 he was Deputy Prime Minister and 1984-1990 Minister of Education and Culture.
