Yli-Kitka

Yli- Kitka is situated a lake in Finland, in the municipalities of Kuusamo ( Northern Ostrobothnia ) and Posio ( Lapland ). The lake is connected to the northern lake Ala- Kitka across the Sound Kilkilösalmi. Together the two lakes form the Kitkajärvi lake system. With 237 km ² of Yli- Kitka is the largest unregulated lake in Finland. It lies at an altitude of 240.4 m.

The Riisitunturi National Park is located north of the lake. The lake system is drained on the east bank of the Ala- Kitka on the Kitkajoki to Oulankajoki and is part of the watershed of the Russian River Kowda, which flows into the White Sea.
