Yo La Tengo
Yo La Tengo is a band from Hoboken, New Jersey, United States.
The name Yo La Tengo is Spanish and means " I have ". This expression is said in baseball that you will catch the ball and the players should not risk a collision.
History
The band was founded in 1984. Since that time, Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley are. With Dave Schramm and Mike Lewis the first single The River Of Water was recorded. In the same cast followed in 1986 the album Ride The Tiger. Schramm and Lewis left the band, while Stephen weighting Nevsky joined them. Published in 1987 plate New Wave Hot Dogs has been praised by critics, but was not a commercial success. The same thing happened with the plate published in 1989 President Yo La Tengo.
Fakebook was published in 1990, a record almost exclusively with cover versions of, inter alia, Cat Stevens, Gene Clark, The Kinks and Daniel Johnston. This was followed by May I Sing with Me ( 1992) and Painful (1993 ) with the new bassist James McNew. The band was already one of the most important bands of the 1990s by insiders and critics. With Electr -O- Pura (1995 ) was consolidated this reputation. Yo La Tengo were compared early with The Velvet Underground - so it was obvious that Yo La Tengo played the Velvets in the film I Shot Andy Warhol. This was followed by I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One (1997), And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out (2000) and Summer Sun ( 2003).
Published in 2005, Yo La Tengo a compilation of old songs on two CDs under the name Prisoners of Love. There is also a smattering of A Outtakes and Rarities called CD with rare pieces. 2006 CD Yo La Tengo Is Murdering the Classics appeared ( on the band's website available ) on which cover songs are heard, the Yo La Tengo had played during the annual WFMU Telethon since 1996.
For the recorded in Chicago and released in January 2013 album fade, the band engaged for the first time the producers and sound wizard John McEntire, who coined the genre of post-rock with groups like Tortoise and The Sea and Cake mid-nineties. His influence can be clearly heard on the album.
