Yoan Pablo Hernández
Yoan Pablo Hernández Suárez ( born October 28, 1984 in Pinar del Río ) is a Cuban- German boxer and IBF world cruiserweight champion.
Amateur
Hernández, a 1.93 m high southpaw, finished in 2001 at the World Championships in the age class of the Cadet (U -17) into second place. In 2002, he struck at the Junior World Championships in Santiago de Cuba in the semifinals of the heavyweight division Stefan Köber and then won the title. After he was defeated by Cuban Odlanier Solís Superstar 2003 twice, the coach made him take off ten pounds and heavyweight boxing ( to 81 kg).
He won the silver medal at the Pan American Games in 2003, where he defeated the Mexicans with 20 Ramiro Reducindo on points to 37 in the light heavyweight division. At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, he lost in the preliminary round against the Russian double world champion Evgeny Makarenko 18 to 30, 2005, he was with a 22:18 points victory over Luis Ortiz Cuban heavyweight champion after Odlanier Solís was changed into a super heavyweight.
Professional
In 2005, he sat down after a defeat by Alexander the Chemistry Cup in Halle Powernow of the Cuban team and became a professional with Wilfried Sauerland and trained under Ulli Wegner. Hernández demonstrated in his first two professional fights impressively his class. In the ICC Berlin he gave on September 3, 2005, his pro debut against David Vicena. In his fifteenth professional fight Hernández suffered his first defeat against former world champion Wayne Braithwaite. Although he had already Braithwaite in the 1st round at the bottom, he lost in the 3rd round by TKO, after he himself had to the ground three times.
On October 1, 2011 in Neubrandenburg Hernández won the world championship match of the International Boxing Federation cruiserweight against Steve Cunningham. The fight was ' canceled by the referee because of two cut- Hernández injuries after the 6th round on advice of the ringside physician and evaluated. A point in favor of judges evaluated Cunningham, two judges scored the fight in favor of Hernández ', which thus won the world title. Even the rematch on February 4, 2012 in Frankfurt am Main, he won after 12 rounds by points.
After a points victory against Troy Ross ( 25-2 ) in September 2012, he defended his title again until November 23, 2013 by Ko in the tenth round against Alexander Alexeyev.
