Yocalla Municipality

The municipality Yocalla is a district in the Potosí Department in the highlands of South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality Yocalla is one of four Municipalities in the province of Tomás Frías and lies west of the city of Potosí. It is bordered to the east by the municipality of Potosí, to the north by the municipality of Tinguipaya, on the west by the municipality of Urmiri, and on the south by the province Antonio Quijarro.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the eastern edge of the Yocalla Bolivian Altiplano before the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central.

The mean annual temperature of the region is about 11 ° C (see climate chart Potosí ), the annual precipitation is about 350 mm. The region has a pronounced diurnal climate, the monthly average temperatures vary only slightly between 8 ° C in June / July and 13 ° C from November to March. The monthly rainfall range from less than 10 mm in the months of May to September, almost 80 mm in January and February.

Population

The 2001 census reports for the municipality on a total population of 8,046 inhabitants, the update for the year 2010 speaks of 8665 inhabitants. The life expectancy of newborns is 62 years, the literacy rate for those over 15 years at 77 %, and the proportion of the urban population in the municipality is 0% ( 2001).
