Yochanan Afek

Yochanan Afek (* April 16, 1952 in Tel Aviv) is an Israeli- Dutch chess composer, player, journalist, organizer and coach.

Chess

Afek is an International Master and International Arbiter, respectively, for OTB chess and chess composition. He worked as a trainer in various countries. His highest Elo rating of 2430, he reached in July 1993 His current Elo rating is 2298 (as of July 2011).. For some time he lived in the Netherlands. In Germany he played for SV Betz village churches.

Run by Moshe Czerniak chess club in Tel Aviv he met other chess composers. Chess studies as were his field of activity. He recently John Roycroft replaced as Chairman of the Commission for Studies in PCCC.

Afek is currently clerk for studies in the English chess composition magazine, The Problemist. He wrote, together with Alon Greenfeld, articles about topics of study in lots, published in the journal chess.
