Yoga Journal

Yoga Journal is founded in May 1975 by the California Yoga Teachers Association, American media company based in San Francisco. It publishes the eponymous magazine, a website and DVDs on yoga. In addition, meetings are held on the topics of nutrition, fitness, wellness, fashion and beauty from the Yoga Journal.

In the mid- 1990s, the level of awareness of yoga increased in the United States, the edition of the magazine reached 66,000 copies. In the fall of 1998 John Abbott bought an investment banker and yoga followers, the magazine. In January 2000, the layout was completely changed. The edition number was at this time 90000-350000 copies, the magazine was read in 2010 of over one million readers. In September 2006 Yoga Journal of Active Interest Media was acquired publish the Vegetarian Times, the Black Belt Magazine and more.

German edition

Since 2009, a German edition of the magazine is published by Piranha Media, which appears every two months. Publisher Alexander Lacher, co-editor is Michi Kern. The first edition was published in 52,000 copies in May 2009.

Awards

Yoga Journal won consecutive five Maggie prices of the Western Publications Association as "the best health and fitness magazine", in 2007 it received the top award for " best all-encompassing customer publication." The Forbes Magazine called the site of the Yoga Journal as "the most far-reaching and impressive Yoga site ".
