Historical

In ancient India, natural materials such as coconut fiber, jute or sisal were used as animal skins of deer or tigers. In Europe, people used initially towels on carpets or cotton mats underlain by rubber mats, which prevent slipping on wood floors. The first yoga mats specially produced were sold in the 1990s.
