Yoko Watanabe

Yoko Watanabe (Japanese渡 辺 叶子, Yoko Watanabe, * 1953, † 15 July 2004 in Milan ) was a Japanese opera soprano who spent much of her career in Europe, where she became famous primarily as the main character of Madama Butterfly.

Much attention were her performances as Micaela in Carmen, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Gounod's Faust and Gretchen in Amelia in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra.

Watanabe died after a prolonged battle with cancer at her home in Milan at the age of 51 years.
