Yolanda of Lusignan

Jolanda I of Lusignan (French Yolande, born March 24, 1257 Angoulême, † September 30, 1314 ) was from 1273 Mistress of Fougeres, from 1308 also mistress of Lusignan, Couhé and Peyrat, and Countess of La Marche.

She was the eldest child of Hugo XII. of Lusignan and Jeanne de Fougeres. After her mother 's death in 1273 she inherited from her dominion Fougères. After her two brothers Hugo XIII. Guido and I had died, she inherited from the latter in 1308, the paternal dominions Lusignan, Couhé and Peyrat and the county of La Marche. The county of Angoulême fell to her younger sisters Johanna and Isabella who sold it to the French King Philip IV.

Before 1281, she married her first husband Elie Rudel, Lord of Pons. With him she had two children:

  • Rainald IV of Pons ( * before 1282, † 1308) ∞ Isabella of Levis
  • Jolanda Pons ( * before 1290 ) ∞ Volker III. , Lord of Matha

In her second marriage, she married Robert Matha.

When she died in 1314, the county of La Marche by King Philip IV was annexed and given as an appanage to Philip's son Charles IV of France.
