Yon Fan

Yon Fan (Chinese杨凡, Pinyin Yang Fan, pseudonym Yonfan, born in 1947 in Hunan Province, China ) is a Hong Kong-based Chinese photographer and film director.

Biography

Yon was born in 1947 in Hunan Province. Even in early childhood, he left with his parents, the People's Republic of China and the family I settled first in Hong Kong, then later on Taiwan down. As a young man he returned to Hong Kong, where he worked as a photographer, left the city again in 1968, however, to study film studies in the United States. After several years spent Yonfan in the United States, England and France, he returned to Hong Kong and continued to work as a photographer. In 1984 he made ​​his debut as director with the film A Certin Romance ( Shaonü Riji ). After the film, In Between (San maintenance gui shut doi ) in 1993, Yon turned decisively on the mainstream cinema of Hong Kong and began preferably to address marginalized identities. A special role was played by homosexuality. With his turn to fringe groups or niche film, he also lost the commercial success in his homeland, which also could not be compensated by the positive reception of his work on western festivals.

2009 received Yonfan for his feature film Lei wangzi an invitation to contest the 66th Film Festival of Venice.
