Yongzhou
Yongzhou (Chinese永 州市) is a prefecture-level city in southern China's Hunan province, north of Nanling Mountains. The administrative area of the city has an area of 22,441.43 km ² and about 5.65 million inhabitants (2003 ). The city is over 2,000 years old. It is famous for its beautiful, old and still perfectly preserved old town. Temples, towers and the old city walls show that Yongzhou once played an important role in the province. It is an important transit station between northern China and the South China Sea. Because of its harbor it was in addition to the economic advantages also interesting for military strategists.
Also, on a cultural level is Yongzhou an important and interesting town. The city attracts especially with its many non-religious temples and the eight attractive landscapes of Yongzhou numerous tourists. One of the most famous temple is Ningyuan. Here the Chinese thinker and local ruler Confucius was sacrificed.
In addition, Yongzhou is known by its Qiju Opera and the teaching Li of the Song and Ming dynasties, one of the most important philosophical movements in China. The origin of the famous woman writing ( Nüshu ) came here from the old city of Yongzhou.
In Yongzhou live to 90% Han Chinese. Only a mere 10% of the population are members of the Yao nationality.
Yongzhou is one of the emerging cities in China.

- Circle Jiangyong江永 县, 1633 km ², 250,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Xiaopu潇 浦镇;
- Circle Lanshan蓝山县, 1807 km ², 350,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Tafeng塔 峰 镇;
- Circle Xintian新 田 县, 1004 km ², 370,000 inhabitants, capital: large village Longquan龙泉 镇;
- Circle Shuangpai双 牌 县, 1739 km ², 170,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Longpo泷 泊 镇;
- Circle Qiyang祁阳 县, 2519 km ², 980,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Wuxi浯 溪镇;
- Jianghua Yao Autonomous County of江华瑶 族 自治县, 3216 km ², 460,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Tuojiang沱江 镇.
