Yopal is the capital of the Colombian department of Casanare, with around 106 822 inhabitants ( 2005). Yopal is approximately 350 m above sea level in the east of the country at the confluence of the River Cravo Sur. The average annual temperature is 26 ° C.

The story Yopals begins with the construction of a house in the then uninhabited city center today by Elías Granados in 1915. The square became the transit point local and regional livestock trade. 1928 were added three more houses, including that of Pedro Pablo González, who is regarded as the actual founder of the place.
