Yordan Letchkov

Jordan Letschkow ( Bulgarian Йордан Лечков; born July 9, 1967 in Straldja, District Yambol ) is a former Bulgarian football player, politician of the GERB party and mayor of the city of Sliven.

Life

With ten years Letschkow began playing football. His first club was FK Sliven. At 18, he turned pro and won in 1990 with the FK Sliven Bulgarian Cup. In 1991, the midfielder for CSKA Sofia. In 1992, with the CSKA Letschkow the Bulgarian Cup and then moved to Hamburger SV. In the 1994 World Cup Letschkow placed 4th as a national player with Bulgaria; He scored the crucial headed goal in the quarter- final against Germany. After the 1994 World Cup when he came HSV little used and changed in 1996 to Olympique Marseille, where he remained until 1997. After that he played for one year at Beşiktaş Istanbul. He then ended his athletic career. Overall, he played 45 international matches.

Letschkow is married and has two sons. In 2003 he became mayor of Sliven, 2008 he was confirmed in his office. In April 2010, an investigation was launched against him on charges of abuse of office. In January 2013 he was sentenced to two years' imprisonment.
