In the Bulgarian Championship 1976 in Sofia Jordan Mitkow set a new world record in a duel with 345 kg ( 155-190 ) in the middleweight division. But at the European Championships 1976 in Berlin (East) he came at middleweight only 330 kg ( 147.5 to 182.5 ) and finished in behind Militosjan Vartan, who scored 340 kg and Peter Wenzel, who came to 335 kg to 3. Due to a re- injury Jordan Mitkow fell out for the entire year of competition in 1978 and was only able to go in the spring of 1979 at the Fifth National Spartakiade ( zgl. Bulgarian Cup) in Sofia back to the start. He reached there with 342.5 kg ( 152.5 to 190 ) again an excellent result and referred Nedeltscho Kolev, which reached 332.5 kg to 2nd place. At the European Championships 1979 in Varna, he rose again to 345 kg ( 155-190 ) and won with this performance before Nedeltscho Kolev, 337.5 kg and Peter Wenzel, 332.5 kg. At the World Championships in 1979 in Salonika, he was by the Cuban Roberto Urrutia as Nedeltscho Kolev snatched 155 kg, surprised. He came in the snatch only 150 kg, and therefore had to go in pushing a high risk and start the competition with 190 kg. This weight was too high for him that day. He did not make it three times and therefore different without duel result of unplaced.

1980 occupied Jordan Mitkow in the Bulgarian championship 345 kg ( 150-195 ) behind the new Star Assen Slatew, 352.5 kg ( 157.5 to 195 ) and Nedeltscho Kolev, 350 kg ( 160-190 ) only the 3rd place and was therefore used in 1980 neither at the European Championships in Belgrade, even at the Olympic Games in Moscow.
