Yordan Yovkov

Jowkow Jordan ( born November 9, 1880 in Zheravna, † October 15, 1937 in Plovdiv ) was a Bulgarian writer. He is considered a classic of Bulgarian storytelling.

Main theme of his works is the life in the villages in northeastern Bulgaria, where he combined general human values ​​with the cultural and ethical traditions of his country. He used a simple, natural language that contains elements of both the handling and style of the Bulgarian folk poetry. His acting fussy village stories included in the collection of short stories Balkan legends have similarity to those of Jeremiah Gotthelf, Gottfried Keller and Marie von Ebner- Eschenbach. From his story The White Swallow said Ernest Hemingway, she was the most beautiful he had ever read.
