Yorgos Lanthimos

Giorgos Lanthimos (Greek Γιώργος Λάνθιμος, also Georgios or Yorgos; born 1973 in Athens ) is a Greek film producer and director.

Life

Lanthimos was born in Athens and studied at the Film School Stavrakos the craft of directing. In the 1990s he was a director at various videos for Greek dance theater, as well as for commercials, music videos and experimental plays.

In 2001, he led, together with Lakis Lazopoulos directing the film My Best Friend. He was part of the team that designed the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In 2005 he wrote and turned the experimental film Kinetta, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

His film Dogtooth (also known under the name Kynodontas ) in 2009 was awarded the Un Certain Regard prize at the International Film Festival in Cannes. In the category of Best Foreign Language Film, the film drama in 2011 was also nominated for an Oscar. In 2010, the film had been on the shortlist for the Oscar. The film won eight nominations five Greek Film Academy Awards, including three awards were for Lanthimos for best film, best director and best screenplay. International Lanthimos and his film won numerous other awards. These include honors at film festivals and award ceremonies in Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden, Ireland, Canada, Portugal and the USA and nominations at the British Independent Film Awards and the Mar del Plata Film Festival in Argentina.

2010 he was a producer of the film Attenberg director Athina Rachel Tsangari the Greek. A year later received Lanthimos for the script of his feature film Alpis together with co-author Efthymis Filippou the Drehbuchpreisauf the 68th International Film Festival of Venice.
