Yorikane Masumoto

Yorikane Masumoto (Japanese桝 本 赖 兼, Masumoto Yorikane; born January 29, 1941 in Manchuria ) is a Japanese politician and served from February 1996 to February 2008 the 25th mayor of Kyoto.

Masumoto was born in 1941 in Manchuria. At the age of four he and his parents returned to Japan and settled in Kyoto Prefecture. Masumoto grew up in Kumihama, a community that worked in the city Kyotango 2004.

Masumoto studied at the Chuo University, at the Law School, he graduated in 1963.

He was first elected mayor of Kyoto in 1996. In this role he was also president of the League, founded in 1994 Historical Cities (League of Historical Cities, LHC).
