York County (Pennsylvania)

The York County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. In the census in 2010, the County had 434 972 inhabitants and a population density of 185.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is York.

Geography

The County is located on the west bank of the Susquehanna River and is separated by the Mason - Dixon line from Maryland to the south. The York County has an area of 2,358 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface. It borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The York County was formed on August 19, 1749 from former parts of Lancaster County. It was named after the English county of Yorkshire and its capital York.
