York County (South Carolina)

York County is a county located in the state of South Carolina in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is York.

Geography

The County is located in the north of South Carolina, bordering North Carolina and has an area of ​​1802 square kilometers, of which 34 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cleveland County (North Carolina ), Gaston County ( North Carolina), Mecklenburg County ( North Carolina), Lancaster County, Chester County, Union County and Cherokee County.

History

York County was formed in 1798. It was named after the York County in Pennsylvania, former home of many settlers.
