Yosef Eliyahu Henkin

Rabbi Joseph Eliahu Henkin (also: Yosef Eliyahu Henkin, * 1891 in Klimovichi, † 1973) was an American Orthodox rabbi.

He was born in the Russian Empire, and studied at the yeshiva under Rav Isser Zalman Slutzker Meltzer. After having worked as a rabbi in some Russian cities, he emigrated in 1922 to the United States. In 1925 he became director of the nonprofit Jewish organization Ezra's Torah and remained active for Ezra's Torah until his death. Ezra's Torah published a yearly calendar ( Luach ) with all the synagogues, religious requirements, instructions for each day including explanations and instructions. All traditional non - hasidic synagogues in North America followed the guidelines Henkins and his school.

1936 declared Rav Henkin in 1905 formed under Rav Yehoshua Seigel New York Eruv for questionable or invalid. Rav Henkin was then at Eruv many discussions ( Manhattan Eruv ) crucially involved.

Rav Henkin was adjusted anti-Zionist and contradicted the views of the Satmar Rebbe.
