Yosef Mendelevitch

Yosef Mendelevitch (or Mendelovitch ) ( b. 1947 in Riga) was a Soviet Jew and a member of the refusenik movement, the 1970 was involved in an attempted hijacking, with which the group wanted to force their emigration. He was arrested together with the Jewish dissident Natan Sharansky. After his release in 1981 he emigrated to Israel, where he worked as a Zionist rabbi today. Mendelevitch authored a highly acclaimed autobiography about his life as a "prisoner of Zion ".
