Yoshiko Shiotani

Yoshiko Shiotani (Japanese潮 谷 义 子, Yoshiko Shiotani; born April 5, 1939 in Saga Prefecture ) was from 2000 to 2008 non-party governor of the Japanese prefecture of Kumamoto. She was the country 's second wife in the governorship after Fusae Ōta ( Osaka Prefecture, 2000-2008 ).

Life

Shiotani studied until 1962 at Nihon Daigaku Shakai Jigyo and then worked as a social representative in Oita and Saga, 1972 in an orphanage for young children in Kumamoto. She was appointed Deputy Governor in 1999; In 2000 she was elected with the support of the LDP and Kōmeitō for Governor, confirmed in office in 2004.

Most controversial topic of her two election campaigns and their first years in office was a planned since 1966 dam project on the river Kawabe, against which local residents and fishermen spoke out vehemently. In 2005, the plans were temporarily put on hold.

2008 candidate Shiotani not for a third term. Their was succeeded on 16 April 2008 to Ikuo Kabashima.
