Yossi Matias

Matias was in 1992 at the University of Tel Aviv in Uzi Vishkin in computer science doctorate (Highly parallel randomized Algorithmics ). He was at Bell Laboratories, a visiting professor at Stanford University and is a professor at the University of Tel Aviv.

In 1996 he directed the Lucent Personal Web Assistant project. He was the founder and director of a number of software companies ( Zapper Technologies 1999 Hyper Roll, which was acquired by Oracle).

In 2006 he was the founder of Google's research center in Israel. There he led the development of various Google products like Google Trends, Google Suggest, Google Insights for Search and is a senior director of Google Search. He also initiated for example, projects for the online status of the collections of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum and the scrolls from the Dead Sea. He heads the Google campus of Tel Aviv.

In 2005 he was awarded the Gödel Prize with Noga Alon and Mario Szegedy for fundamental contributions to data stream algorithms. He also conducted research on search algorithms, data analysis and algorithms for massive amounts of data, parallel algorithms, data compression, information management systems, internet technologies, video processing and data security. He holds over 25 patents. In 2009 he became a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery.
