Yoto Yotov

Joto Wasilew Jotow (also Yoto Vasilev Yotov written, Bulgarian Йото Василев Йотов; May 22nd, 1969 in Pernik ) is a Bulgarian weightlifter, who took time as well as Croatia.

Sporting career

Jotow has established itself for almost a decade in the world top of the light and middle weight. His first international competition was the 1989 World Championships in Athens, where he scored in a light weight 67.5 kg to 337.5 kg ( 155.0 / 182.5 kg ), and thus silver behind Israjel Militosjan with 347.5 kg and above Kim Myong Nam - Il won with 327.5 kg.

In the following years Jotow took part in almost every European and World championship. In 1990, he won ( 155.0 / 185.0 kg ), the European Championships in Aalborg with 340.0 kg and 352.5 kg was ( 152.5 / 180.0 kg ) runner-up behind Kim Myong -Nam Il, the 347 5 kg achieved. The Europe - and the world championship in 1991 could both decide for Jotow, where he ( 155.0 / 185.0 kg ) and 345.0 kg ( 155.0 / 190.0 kg ) lifted 340.0 kg.

In Olympic 1992 Jotow could at the European Championships its main competitors Militosian with 337.5 kg ( 152.5 / 185.0 kg ) still refer to 335.0 kg in second place. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona presented its performance of 327.5 kg ( 150.0 / 177.5 kg ) but not to beat Militosian with 337.5 kg, which Jotow won silver. Third place went to Andreas Behm with 320.0 kg.

Also in 1993 won Jotow both international title. After the conversion of the weight classes Jotow continued to perform on the lightweight, which had a limit of 70 kg body weight now. At the European Championships in Sofia and the World Championships in Melbourne, he lifted 342.5 kg, respectively ( 152.5 / 155.0 or 190 kg / 187.5 kg ) and won so clearly ahead of the competition.

The following year, in Sokolov Jotow won with 345.0 kg ( 152.5 / 192.5 kg ) his fourth European title, from the Turks Fedail Güler with 342.5 kg and 332.5 kg with Ergun Batmaz. Since after the conversion of the weight classes, the old records were discarded Jotows defined performance in pushing and in single combat a new world record dar. At the World Championships in Istanbul, he had, however, with 345.0 kg ( 155.0 / 190.0 kg ) to 350.0 kg Güler beaten given and thus won the silver ahead of compatriot Angel Guenchew with 340.0 kg.

In 1995 Jotow the middleweight division to 76 kg body weight. Here he played with the World Championships in Guangzhou his first competition in this class and could be placed immediately on the podium. With 365.0 kg ( 162.5 / 202.5 kg ), he was only 2.5 kg behind the world champion Pablo Lara, who scored 367.5 kg. The 2005 European Championship was the only major event in the Jotow since 1989, did not compete.

Even in his second Olympic Games remained Jotow the gold medal denied. 360.0 kg ( 160.0 / 200.0 kg ), he had to give Lara with 367.5 kg beaten. Third place went to Jon Chol -Ho with 357.5 kg.

A year later Jotow again won the European and World Championship titles. At the European Championship in Rijeka Yotov lifted 355.0 kg ( 160.0 / 195.0 kg ) and has been using this power first before Ingo Steinhofel and Ruslan Savchenko, each with 350.0 kg. At the World Championships in Chiang Mai, he was able to hold with 367.5 kg ( 165.0 / 202.5 kg ) against his fellow countryman Georgi Gardev with 365.0 kg and won his last world title.

After the 1995 World Cup Jotow denied until 2004, no international competitions more. However, for the European Championship in Kiev he came under Croatian flag in the light heavyweight division to 85kg, where he ( 155.0 / 195.0 kg ) in 15th with 350.0 kg. 2006 Jotow then entered again on a world championship. In Santo Domingo raised the now 37 -year-old 340.0 kg ( 150.0 / 190.0 kg ) and reached the 17th place.

Jotow currently stands (as of season 2010/11) in the 2nd Bundesliga for the AC Mother City.
