Young Communist League (Cuba)

The Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas ( UJC; German: Communist Youth League ) is the youth organization of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC ). It is not a classical mass organization, but sees itself similar to the PCC as the vanguard of society. The minimum age is 14, the maximum age at 30 years, even if the leadership cadres are usually older. Of the members of a particularly high socialist consciousness is expected. In exceptional cases, foreigners living can be incorporated into the organization in Cuba.

Currently, the UJC has more than 700,000 members.

The Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas maintains relationships with 218 global organizations and is affiliated to the World Federation of Democratic Youth. In addition, they participated in 14 other international organizations.

The organ of the UJC is the daily newspaper Juventud Rebelde.

History

(: Communist Youth League dt ) founded in 1928 was the first Communist Party of Cuba, the League Juvenil Comunista. It existed only a little more than half a decade.

The end of 1944 was founded on the initiative of the Partido Socialista Popular, the forerunner of today's Communist Party PCC, the Juventud Socialista (Socialist Youth), for example, Raúl Castro was a member, but not the at that time political in the bourgeois camp dedicated Fidel Castro. After the Cuban Revolution, Che Guevara founded the Asociación de Jóvenes Rebeldes ( Federation of rebellious youth ), which in 1960 merged with the Juventud Socialista.

On 4 April 1962, the organization was named Unión de Jóvenes Comunistas during the first congress of the new, combined organization to the proposal of Fidel Castro.

The UJC has initiated several programs that are directed to the Cuban youth, such as the youth club for computer science and electronics ( Joven Club de Computación y Eléctronica ), the Society for rural tourism of the people ( Empresa Campismo Popular), the Martische Youth Movement ( Movimiento Juvenil Martiano ), the Technical Youth Brigade ( Brigada Técnicas Juveniles ), the brigades of the art teacher ( Brigada de Instructores de Arte ), the Trabajadores Sociales (English about: social workers) and also directs the summer campaigns in the country. In addition, organizations such as the Federación de Estudiantes de la Enseñanza Media ( FEEM ) ( Federation of vocational school students), the Federación Estudiantil Universitaria ( FEU - Federation of University Students ) and the Organización de Pioneros José Martí ( OPJM - Pioneer Organization José Martí) advised by the UJC.

Organizational Structure

- Congreso (Congress )

- Office Nacional ( National Office )

- Comité Nacional ( National Committee )

The National Committee shall nationwide together twice a year. The provincial committees meet three times a year and the municipalities times a year.
