Younus Shaikh

Younus Shaikh (* May 30, 1952 in Chishtian ) is a Pakistani doctor, human rights activist, rationalist and freethinker.

Life

Shaikh studied medicine in Pakistan and Ireland.

In 1992, Shaikh founded the Rationalistenorganisation " The Enlightenment " ( The Enlightenment ), whose president he became. This Islamic fundamentalists were aware of him. After a fake ad for blasphemy, he was arrested in October 2000 and sentenced to death in August 2001. After a review of the sentence he was released in November 2003. Today he is a recognized refugee in Switzerland.
