The Jug (left) joins the Sukhona (top ) near Veliky Ustjug (top right) on the Northern Dvina

The Jug ( Юг ) is the right source of the Northern Dvina River in the south its basin

The Jug (Russian Юг; German literally means " south ", has etymologically but probably nothing to do with the point of the compass ) is a 574 km long river in the European part of northwestern Russia.

It rises about 40 km northeast of Nikolsk on the elongated northern Russian ridge and flows from there first a piece in a southwesterly direction. Then it meanders mostly in fairly deep valleys mainly northwards to Veliky Ustjug to unite there with the coming of the West Sukhona the Northern Dvina.

Larger tributaries are Scharschenga and Kitschmenga from the left, and Lusa and Puschma from the right.
