Yuichi Akasaka

Yuichi Akasaka (赤 坂 雄 一Japanese, Yuichi Akasaka; born September 29, 1967 in Ibaraki Prefecture ) is a former Japanese Shorttracker.

Akasakas career began in the early 1980s, when he became the third leg of the relay hosts won the bronze medal in the short track speed skating World Cup 1983 in Tokyo. Even after reaching at the Akasaka discharged annually global title competitions further success; so he made in 1985 in Amsterdam - this time as the second runner of the season - with the first triumph of his native country in this discipline. This victory he repeated with other teammates in 1992 and 1994. Until the mid -1990s Akasaka won six World Championship medals, five of them in the relay. The only individual medal secured by the Japanese in 1990, when he tied with the British Wilf O'Reilly took the silver medal in the all around and only the South Koreans Lee Joon -ho was defeated.

In his career Akasaka also collected Olympic experiences; both 1992 and 1994, he was inducted into the season and won in this discipline, together with Tatsuyoshi Ishihara, Toshinobu Kawai and Tsutomu Kawasaki in Albertville in 1992 the bronze medal.
