Yukitsuri

Yukitsuri or Yukizuri (Japanese雪 づり;雪 吊り;雪 吊;雪 釣り) are high napkins that are used in the Japanese Garden in the winter time to avoid damage due to heavy snowfall. The best known are those in Yukitsuri Kenroku -en in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture.

The structure varies depending on the type of plant to be protected. For older trees, it consists of a pile which is positioned close to the stem of the plant, as well as a series of ropes (usually five ) that are connected to the pile and the soil, so that a conical or tipiförmige arrangement arises. This is to protect the branches from the cancel under the weight of snow. At the top of the pile a decorative rope is hung mostly still. This structure type is the most common and is called Ringo tsuri (りんご 吊り).

For young pines and cherry trees will be omitted on a pole. The ropes are attached directly to the top and connected to the lower branches of each tree. This type of structure is called Miki- tsuri (みき 吊り, German " strain suspension ").

For bushes and shrubs all branches are connected together to form a bottle-shaped arrangement, so that the soil in which the plants are rooted, is not heavily covered with snow. This type of structure is called Shibori (しぼり).
