Yüksekova

Yüksekova ( Syro -Aramaic ܓ ܒ ܼ ܪ Gawar, alternate spelling ܓ ܵ ܒ ܼ ܵ ܪ; Kurdish fielding ) is a town and a district of the Turkish province of Hakkari in southeastern Turkey. In 1934, the then- Gever was awarded the status of a Belediye. The renaming to Yüksekova came two years later. A part of the district borders on Iran. The city has 68 230 inhabitants and the county a total of 115 966 ​​inhabitants ( 2012).

Yüksekova means plateau and is located at about 2000 m altitude. The extent of the plateau is 15 by 40 km. The winters are long and hard and in spite of fertile soils are agricultural yields because of low temperatures low.

The region's history goes back to the time of Urartu.
