Yun Bo-seon

Yun Bo - seon ( born August 26, 1897 in Asan, Chungcheongnam -do, Korea earlier, today's South Korea, † July 18, 1990 in Seoul, South Korea) was 1960-1962 President of South Korea. He was the nephew of Yun Chi -ho and Yun Chi -young.

Life

Yun studied at Edinburgh University, where he graduated in 1930 as Master of Arts. After independence from Japan in 1945, he entered into politics, Syngman Rhee was his mentor. 1948 appointed Rhee him mayor of Seoul. A year later he was trade and industry minister, but he came increasingly opposed to the increasingly autocratic ruling Rhee. Yun eventually became president of the Korean Red Cross, until he was elected to Parliament in 1954. The following year he was co-founder of the opposition Democratic Party.

After the fall of Rhee by a pro-democracy student uprising Yun was elected on 13 August 1960 President. The effectiveness of his government suffered from internal rivalries of the Democratic Party. 1961 there was a coup by Major General Park Chung -hee and Yun finally resigned on 22 March 1962. He was an opponent of the authoritarian government way of parking, but he could in 1963 and 1967 not prevail in the presidential elections against this. After several probation for anti-government activities, the now 83 -year-old Yun 1980 withdrew from politics and devoted himself increasingly to cultural activities.

1990 Yun died of complications from diabetes and high blood pressure.
