Yusef of Morocco

Moulay Yusuf or Yusuf ben Hassan (Arabic يوسف بن الحسن, DMG Yūsuf al - Ḥasan b, * 1882; . † November 17, 1927 in Fes ) was Sultan of Morocco, Alawites in 1913 until 1927.

Life

Moulay Yusuf in 1913 as Sultan by the French protectorate as successor to his brother Moulay Abd al - Hafiz ( 1908-1913 ) were used. However, the influence of the Alawites to the policy of the country was low, as the real power was in the hands of French general Marshal Lyautey residents ( 1912-1925 ). The protectorate administration completed the subjugation of the tribes and began extensive land expropriation in order to leave the ground to French settlers.

The excavated during the reign of Moulay Yusuf in northern Morocco revolt against Spanish rule of the Berber tribes of Abd al- Karim (1922-1926), had no influence on the French protectorate. Rather, French troops involved in the suppression of the uprising in the Rif Mountains. Successors of Moulay Yusuf was the son of Mohammed V (1927-1961) of Morocco would lead to independence again.
