Yushu City, Qinghai

The town of Yushu ( Tib: yus hru'u, Tibetan: ཡུས་ཧྲུའུ, Chinese玉树 市/玉树 市, pinyin Yushu shì ) is a county-level city in the Autonomous County of Yushu Tibetan in the Chinese province of Qinghai.

Seat of government of the 13,462 km ² large circle is Gyegu ( Tib. skye rgu mdo / Jiégǔ Zhen结 古镇), a gradually growing to the city large village ( zhen ). With around 60-70000 inhabitants ( including the unregistered inhabitants) it is the largest town in an area ( the circle Yushu ), whose area is nearly as large as the United Kingdom. The great earthquake of Yushu on April 14, 2010, however light the majority of the city in ruins.

His best-known attractions include the Temple of Princess Wencheng (Tibetan Nampar Namdze, Chinese Wencheng Gongzhu miao ), the Sakya Monastery Döndrub Ling of Kyegu Do (Chinese: Jiegu si) and Gyanak Mani in Xinzhai, all in the immediate vicinity of the town lie. Other important monastic institutions of the district are Domkar Gompa and Tranggu Gompa (both Karma Kagyu Order), Rabshi Lungshö in the village of Xia Laxiu and Surmang Dütsithil in the extreme southeast of the circle. The latter is the home monastery of the famous in the West lamas Chogyam Trungpa.
