Yuzawa (Akita)

Yuzawa (Japanese汤 沢 市, - shi) is a city in southern Akita Prefecture on Honshu, the main island of Japan. The city is located approximately in the middle of the railway line between Shinjō and Akita, which in turn are terminal stations of the Yamagata Shinkansen Komachi and the Shinkansen.

Geography

Yuzawa is located southeast of Akita and north of Yamagata in a broad valley at the foot of the Ou Mountains (奥 羽 山脉), which runs along the east of the city. The Omono (雄 物 川) flows through the city. Climatically Yuzawa is characterized by large temperature differences. On cold, snowy winter hot follow ( approximately from mid- November to late March ), some sultry summer months, especially in July and August. In addition to extensive forest landscapes boasts the city especially its numerous hot springs (温泉), both within the city and in the surrounding area.

History

The city was founded in 1954 by the merger of the towns Yuzawa (汤 沢), Benten (弁 天), Hatano (幡 野), Mitsuseki (三 关) and Iwasaki (岩崎) was founded. In 2005, the towns Ogachi (雄 胜), Inakawa (稲 川) and Minasemura (皆 瀬 村) were incorporated.
