Yvette Clarke

Yvette Diane Clarke ( born November 21, 1964 in New York City ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party and since 2007 a ​​member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the state of New York.

Biography

Yvette Clarke was the daughter of Jamaican immigrants in New York City. She attended Edward R. Murrow High School, Oberlin College in Ohio and the Medgar Evers College, part of the City University of New York. She was then engaged in the Penzio economy. From 2001 until her election to the U.S. House of Representatives she was a member of the City Council ( City Council ) of the City of New York.

In 2007 she was elected as the successor of Major Owens for the eleventh New York congressional district in the House of Representatives. The district includes parts of Brooklyn. In the elections of 2008 and 2010, she successfully defended her seat. In the House, she is a member of the Committee on Education and Labor, the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Small Business.

Clarke is single and lives in Brooklyn. She is a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
