Yvon Neptune

Yvon Neptune ( born November 8, 1946 in Cavaillon ) was 2002-2004 Prime Minister of Haiti.

Life

He studied architecture in Haiti and in the U.S., where he lived for more than 20 years and worked for the company Emery Roth & Sons in New York. He denounced the coup of 30 March 1991 at his home, supported the Haitian exiles and was adviser to Jean -Bertrand Aristide, in consequence of which he returned to Haiti on 15 October 1994. Then he was speaker of the Lavalas Party and President of the Senate.

He was appointed by President Aristide on 4 March 2002, elected by parliament on 12 March and took office on 15 March 2002. On 2 March 2004, shortly after Aristide's controversial withdrawal, an angry mob tried unsuccessfully Neptune arrest for alleged corruption. A week later, U.S. Marines killed two armed attackers while they were guarding his residence.

Neptune was replaced on 12 March 2004 by a transitional government. It was led by Gerard Latortue, who was appointed three days earlier. On 27 March 2004, the transitional government issued a travel ban against Neptune and 36 other senior officials of the Aristide government to investigate allegations of corruption better. Neptune went into hiding and called the ban a "witch hunt ".

On 19 February 2005 Neptune was taken during a prison break in Port -au- Prince by peacekeepers of the United Nations in protective custody and turned over to the Haitian authorities again.
