Yvonne Blake

Yvonne Blake ( born 1938 in Manchester ) is a British costume designer who had received an Oscar for Best Costume Design, and four times a Goya Award for Best Costume Design and was nominated several times for this and other film awards.

Life

Yvonne Blake began her career as a costume designer in the film industry in 1966 with the film Fahrenheit 451, in which she played a supporting role, and previously served on the costume and facilities for more than fifty films and television series with.

At the Academy Awards in 1972 she won along with Antonio Castillo an Oscar for Best Costume Design for the staged by Franklin J. Schaffner historical film Nicholas and Alexandra (1971 ) about Czar Nicholas II of Russia and his wife Alexandra starring Michael Jayston, Janet Suzman and Roderic Noble in the lead roles. At the same time both were nominated for this award for the best costumes for the British Academy Film.

Other nominations for the BAFTA Film Award for Best Costume Design she received in 1974 for Jesus Christ Superstar (1973 ) by Norman Jewison with Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson and Yvonne Elliman, 1975 The Three Musketeers (1973 ) by Richard Lester, Oliver Reed, Raquel Welch and Richard Chamberlain as well as in 1976 for the Four Musketeers - Milady 's Revenge (1974 ), the Richard Lester once again staged with the main actors Reed, Welch and Chamberlain. For the costumes in this film, she was also nominated for an Oscar with Ron Talsky for Best Costume Design.

In 1979 she was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Costume Design in Superman ( 1978) by Richard Donner Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder and Gene Hackman in the lead roles with Richard Bruno. In 1987 she was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Costume Design produced for the American Broadcasting Company (ABC ) television film Casanova ( 1987) by Simon Langton with Richard Chamberlain, Faye Dunaway and Sylvia Kristel.

In the following years, Yvonne Blake worked, who is married to the director Gil Carretero, Spanish for numerous film productions and won first time in 1989 a Goya for the best costumes for Remando al viento (1988 ) by Gonzalo Suárez with Hugh Grant, Lizzy McInnerny and Valentine Pelka. Following followed nominations for the Goya in this category: For a 1992 Don Juan en los Infiernos ( 1991) by Gonzalo Suárez with Fernando Guillén, Mario Pardo and Charo López and the other in 1993 for La reina anónima (1992 ), which is also of Gonzalo Suárez was shot with Carmen Maura, Marisa Paredes and Juanjo Puigcorbé.

At the ceremony of the Goya 1995 she won the Goya for best costume for Canción de cuna ( 1994) by José Luis Garci and with Dolores and Aguado and Fiorella Faltoyano in other roles.

For the produced by the TNT television movie James Dean - A Life in the Fast Lane (2001) by Mark Rydell with James Franco, Michael Moriarty and Valentina Cervi, she was nominated in 2002 along with Randy Gardell for an Emmy for Outstanding Costume Design.

She then won two more times the Goya for Best Costume Design: 2004 for Carmen (2003) Vicente Aranda of with Paz Vega, Leonardo Sbaraglia and Antonio Dechent and in 2005 for The Bridge of San Luis Rey (2004) Mary McGuckian with F. Murray Abraham, Kathy Bates, and Gabriel Byrne.

At the ceremony of the Goya 2007 she was nominated for a Goya for the best costumes in Goya's Ghosts by Miloš Forman with the main actors Natalie Portman, Javier Bardem and Stellan Skarsgård. For this film, she was also nominated for the Satellite Awards for Best Costume Design in 2007.

Currently, Yvonne Blake is working on the costume outfit of the Spanish television series Una carta para Evita with Malena Alterio, Rubèn Ametllé and Marcel Borràs whose charisma is planned for 2012.
