Yvonne Georgi

Yvonne Georgi ( born October 29, 1903 in Leipzig, † January 25, 1975 in Hannover) was a German modern dancer, ballet dancer and choreographer.

Life

Yvonne Georgi was the daughter of Oldenburg doctor and a North African mother. She was trained in Hellerau in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Dresden in contemporary artistic dance with Mary Wigman in whose group she was involved, and much later also in Paris in classical dance. Georgi was hired for one season as head of the dance group or solo dancer in Munster and in Gera (under the artistic director Bruno Walter Iltz ). There she opened her work with a dance consisting of " Arab Suite" " Persian Ballet" by Egon Wellesz. But Georgi had also been the local opera performances. As New Year's Eve Premiere In 1925/26 came out Vittorio Rieti recently premiered by Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes dance comedy " Barabau ". The performance attracted even the Berlin critic to Gera and guested at Leipzig Playhouse and at the Berlin Volksbühne. 1926 choreographed Georgi even Igor Stravinsky's " Pulcinella ". Nevertheless, received her dance troupe "because of lack of interest of the public" the termination and Yvonne Georgi moved to Hanover.

1926-1931 was Georgi "Dance Director " at the Municipal Theater Hannover. She has performed at the Berlin State Opera, and has appeared as an expression dancer Harald Kreutzberg. 1936 Georgi emigrated from Germany to Amsterdam, where she married. 1939 was followed by emigration to the United States. After returning to Germany in 1951, Yvonne Georgi initially worked in Dusseldorf ( again with Walter Bruno Iltz ) and then to 1970, as a ballet director at the opera house of Hanover. From 1959 to 1973 was Georgi professor at the University of Music and Theatre in Hanover.

Yvonne Georgi received an honorary grave at the city cemetery Engesohde in Hanover. Her estate is located in the German Dance Archive Cologne and to a lesser extent in the Theatre Museum Hannover.

Awards

In 1970 she was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Lower Saxony and in 1974 she was honored with the Lower Saxony state medal.
