Yvonne Mitchell

Yvonne Mitchell (* July 7, 1915 in London, † March 24, 1979 in London) was a British actress.

Yvonne Mitchell began her theater career as a teenager. In the film they rarely came into existence, but then all the more impressive. Her film debut was in 1941 in Love on the Dole, her first speaking role was in 1949 in a British film adaptation of Pushkin's Queen of Spades. For the film The Divided Heart, she received the 1955 British Film Academy Award for Best British Actress. At the Berlinale 1957, she was awarded the Silver Bear for Best Actress for her role in The woman in a dressing gown. In addition to film work for the cinema was she also appeared in television productions. Especially with theater and literary adaptations, it has been successful here. In 1953 she was awarded by the Daily Mail newspaper the award for " most popular TV Actress of the Year ".

Yvonne Mitchell was besides acting also known as the author of several children's books and also wrote a biography of the French writer Colette. In 1957 they released their autobiography.

Mitchell was married to a film and theater critic. She died after more than four decades of work on stage in 1979 at the age of 53 from cancer.
