Zaessingue

Zaessingue (German Zässingen ) is a commune of 332 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the canton of Sierentz and the Local Government Association, Communauté de communes du Pays de Sierentz.

Geography

The municipality is located in Zaessingue Sundgau, about 20 kilometers south of Mulhouse and twelve kilometers east of Altkirch.

Neighboring communities of Zaessingue are Rantzwiller in the north, Kœtzingue in the northeast, Magstatt -le-Haut in the east, in the southeast Helfrantzkirch, Jettingen in the south, Franken in the southwest and choice, in the western.

History

A noble family Zaessingue is documented from the year 1222. However, the suffix -ingen allows the creation of Zaessingen suspect. It is believed that towns whose names end with -ingen or home, were founded by the Alemanni. Until the French Revolution, the village belonged to the county Pfirt.

Since the 13th century had churches like the St. Leonhard's Church and St. Peter's Church in Basel and the Hospitallers in Mulhouse possessions in Zaessingue.

Attractions

The ship of the church dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul in Zaessingue was built in 1763. Chancel, tower and sacristy date from the year 1772. Inside there are the statues of the two patron saints. The main altar from the 19th century is decorated with paintings of the birth and the resurrection. The baptismal font from the year 1614 has carved floral motifs. The organ by Jean Francois Verschneider from 1881 is still in its original state.

The town hall and school building was built in 1847.
