Zagăr

Zagar ( Rode German, Hungarian Zagor ) municipality is the seat of the eponymous municipality in Mureş county in Transylvania, Romania. The municipality includes the village Seleus heard ( Kleinalisch ).

Geographical location

The place is located in a south-facing side of the Târnava Mica ( Small Kokel ) in Zwischenkokelgebiet, about 20 km as the crow northwest of Sighisoara ( Sighisoara ) and 28 km north-east of Medias ( Medias ) away. On Domald - a left tributary of the Târnava Mica - and the county road (drum Judetean ) DJ 142C, the place Zagar is located about 40 kilometers south of the district capital Târgu Mureş away ( Tirgu Mures ).

History

Rode, first mentioned in 1412, was one of the northernmost settlements of the Saxons on Kokelburger Komitatsboden. The inhabitants were until 1848 hearing Hungarian noble landowners. However, they enjoyed certain privileges which were promised them in attracting them and bestowed a somewhat lighter lot compared to residents not fundamentally impaired Saxon villages.

In 1941, the largest population - at the same time the Transylvanian Saxons ( 1,198 in Zagar; 860 in Seleus ) - Registers the community. The highest percentage of Romanians ( 713) in 1956, the Roma ( 463 ) and the Magyars was registered in 2011. Furthermore, in 2002 a population known to be a Serb.
